Professional Bio
Tim Murphy, PhD is a licensed psychologist specializing in resilience and recovery from psychological trauma. He is the author of three books, including the recently published revised edition of The Christ Cure. Dr. Murphy provides consulting in mental health and public policy with national organizations and is a frequently-invited speaker throughout the US.
Dr. Murphy served six years in the Pennsylvania State Senate where he was Chairman of the Aging and Youth Committee and Vice Chairman of Health and Welfare. He was elected eight times to the U.S. House of Representatives where he served on the Committee on Energy and Commerce and was Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation.
As Co-Chairman of the Mental Health Caucus and Chairman of the Doctors’ Caucus, he championed landmark mental health reforms leading to the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act of 2016, which passed 422–2 and was signed into law by President Obama in December 2016.
Dr. Murphy served eight years in the U.S. Navy Reserve Medical Service Corps achieving the rank of Commander. He served on the inpatient Traumatic Brain Injury/PTSD unit at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, as medical crew on three aircraft carriers (USS Carl Vinson, USS Theodore Roosevelt, USS Ronald Reagan), and on the assessment/selection team with Navy special warfare.
